Two-section Turkoman pendant with flat dangles and glass jewels. Double section pendant is made by cutting shapes from sheet metal and applying jewel settings that traditionally hold deep red glass, like this one, or reddish carnelian. This would make a great piece for embellishing belly dance costuming.

Vintage Turkoman two-section pendant with red jewels. Elongated diamond-shaped dangles. Mixed metals are mostly silvery, unpolished and tarnished.  This pendant has all it’s original components, including glass jewels. This piece is a bit smaller than most multiple section pieces and would work well for dance accessories.

Have you ever wondered why so many cultures use red in their adornments? Over much of the world and through millennia, red has been considered the most potent force against evil influences. Red confronts the forces of darkness with the blaze of the sun and of life. Sacred sites, window and door frames, thresholds, animal trappings, clothing, jewelry, accessories and all manner of baubles incorporate red for this purpose. The color red is considered so amuletic that a single red thread worked into a hem border is sufficient to protect the wearer from the evil eye!

A NOTE ON THE CONDITION OF TRIBAL ITEMS: Our jewelry is used tribal jewelry, from faraway lands. As used pieces the condition of our items will reflect their prior lives as treasured tribal pieces. Please know that we strive to maintain the tribal allure of our items and therefore we do not clean or repair these pieces in any way. We leave that choice to the buyer, as each may prefer something different. This not only maintains the old, tribal look of each piece that our belly dance customers seek, but also preserves the value of a piece that cleaning might diminish.
