Kuchi box pendant made in mixed metals with pretty glass jewels and bell dangles. This piece was probably part of an amulet necklace at one time. Amulet boxes can contain small protective sayings or verses, but even without something inside the shape alone is enough to protect the wearer from evil influences. Made in unpolished mixed metals, but the finish is still a bit shiny.
Box pendants are not just flat pieces of metal, they have a bit of depth to them. Traditionally these boxes are talismanic, and historically contained prayers, protective sayings or holy verses which were inscribed on paper. The use of an inscription as a means to ward off evil spirits began with a belief in early times in the power of words as protection. These days they are frequently empty, but the design remains the same, and it is believed that the shape of the pendant alone is enough to protect the wearer.
