Waziri Tassels - Vintage Tribal Hair Tassels - Matched PAIR Black
Large black Waziri tassels with colorful poms, beadwork and jingling bells on metal tassel tops. Beautiful old matched pair made in cotton or a cotton fiber blend. Traditionally used as hair decoration, they are adorned with metal tube beads, glass beads and colorful poms.
Each of these Waziri tassels has a metal topper with jingling bells, lots of pretty glass beads and a few long metal tube beads. Long braided loops at the tops are attached together, but could easily be taken apart. Full decorated tassel length is about 15 inches long and about 4 inches wide. The loop and fabric cord adds another 25 inches or so to the top length. A beautiful matched pair of vintage hair tassels in tribally used condition.
Waziristan is a region in Pakistan bounded by Afghanistan to the northwest and the Kashmir region to the northeast. The Waziri people are not a "fictional African tribe" as some have suggested, but are a Pashtun tribe who have inhabited the Waziristan region from time immemorial. The tribal peoples of this area still live a traditional lifestyle and govern themselves to a great extent. The border with Afghanistan is porous here, and people travel from one country to the other relatively freely.
