Beautiful small pair of matching Kuchi tribal silver pendants. Body of pendants are dome shaped with small glass jewels for a touch of color. Small bells grace the bottom edge of each piece and glass seed beads are strung between the bells to prevent the loss of the smaller components. These personal pieces may have adorned a necklace, or been worn attached to clothing. Well-made older pieces like these are as individual as the tribal people who have made and worn them for centuries.
The story of Kuchi jewelry, like all tribal jewelry, is rich with influences from many cultures. These beautiful pieces with colorful glass jewels and jingling bells originally came from the nomadic Pashtoon tribes that wandered the border areas of Afghanistan and Pakistan, along ancient routes between the seasons, moving down from the mountains in the winter and back to higher elevations in the summer. The word Kuchi itself is derived from a Farsi word meaning migration, in relation to nomads, and does not describe a particular group or people, but rather a state of being.
