Vintage Turkoman headpiece pendants or ‘tekaki’ with fire-gilded, linked sections. Details include etched design and deep red glass jewels. Five original, linked sections form a long pendant typically suspended at the sides of the head, hooked to a cap or headpiece. The larger section is sometimes referred to as ‘gurbaka’ referring to it’s stylized tortoise shape, in celebration of it’s feminine aspect. Have you ever wondered why so many tribal peoples use red in their adornments? Over much of the world and through millennia, red has been considered the most potent force against evil influences. Red confronts the forces of darkness with the blaze of the sun and of life.
