Vintage Banjara embroidery textile piece with small mixed metal charms and round wool tassels. Textile piece is embroidered in warm colors. Embellished textile pieces are not only decorative, but traditionally offer protection from forces of evil for animals as well as for humans. A nice sized piece for incorporating into dance costuming or other textile arts. Interesting small mixed metal pendants are sewn to the face of the piece and woolen tassels are sewn at the bottom edge. Two ties give hints that this was used as animal decoration.

Banjara women are holding tightly to their traditional crafts and almost every piece of fabric they wear has at least some mirror work or other embellishment to attract the eye. This same exuberance in adornment is extended to their animals and homes as well. In tribal life, animals are a valuable asset. Tribal women make these beautiful handworked pieces from brightly colored fabrics, embroidery, shisha mirrors, beads, shells and other decorative elements worked into animal trappings and decorative pieces that protect as well as adorn.
