Vintage ankle adornment from Kashmir. These older pieces are matching and feature intricate zig-zagging embroidery design on deep red fabric. Metal ankle bracelets are sewn to the lower edge of the fabric and keep the weight balanced. The bands are secured by buttons and loops. The mountainous region of far northeastern Afghanistan, northern Pakistan, the Kashmir and northern India are a trove of jewelry designs. Here many cultures overlap and jewelry styles intertwine. Personal adornment here reflects the influences of all of these areas while still retaining it's own unique jewelry traditions.
